Images of pupils: photos on the school management system

Does the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 restrict use of pupils' photos? The ICO says that the Protection of Freedoms Act does not stop schools taking photos of pupils for a school management system. However, processing of personal information must comply with the Data Protection Act 1988.
